Broad Universe is an international organization of women and men dedicated to celebrating and promoting the work of women writers of science fiction, fantasy and horror. We started a group because we love the work of women and the different perspective they bring to the field, and yet we have noticed for some years that women's work can get short shrift in the babble of genre marketing. We'd like to make certain that doesn't happen. As we do our work, we hope and expect we will help promote SF/F/H that breaks the stereotypes of the genre. We are very excited about that prospect. So come on in! Take a look around. Our bookshelves are bulging, our newsletter is fascinating, and the conversation is always both bracing and embracing.

Read our FAQ to learn more about what we're doing and why we're doing it.

If you are curious about how women are represented numerically in SF/F/H, you can take a look at the work of our bean counters.

Broad Universe wouldn't exist without the help of hundreds of authors, artists, and fans of the genre. Here's who to contact for other resources:

Party Pack Organizer
The PPO collects book covers sent by authors whose books are in the Broad Universe book catalog. She coordinates getting book covers mailed to those hosting Broad Universe parties at conventions for use as wall decoration and advertising. Volunteer needed!
Rapidfire Readings Coordinator
The Rapidfire readings coordinator is the first point of contact for anyone wishing to do a BU Rapidfire Reading (a group event at which several writers each read for about 5 minutes) at a convention. She provides advice on set-up and scheduling, makes BU promotional materials available to organizers, confirms that potential participants are eligible to read, and ensures that communications go smoothly (that two readings don't get scheduled for the same convention, for example). Our Rapidfire reading coordinator is Nancy Jane Moore, readings(at)broaduniverse.org
Book Table Coordinator
The Book Table coordinator is the first point of contact for anyone wishing to set up a display table or a dealers table for Broad Universe at a convention. Volunteer currently being sought. Contact booktable(at)broaduniverse.org for more details or to apply.

We'd love to hear from anyone who would like to join us and take an active role in Broad Universe: please email info(at)broaduniverse.org to let us know.
