Tools of the Trade: Suzette Haden Elgin's Brochure
We decided we had to have something from Suzette Haden Elgin to help us inaugurate our new Tools of the Trade feature because, after all, she is the Mistress of Self Promotion. Able to keep books in print for decades, while other author's works go out of print in a matter of months, Elgin has a lot to teach all of us. Recently, we found ourselves drawn to the simple brochure she displays on the Broad Universe information table we set up at various cons. Here it is for your viewing pleasure and marketing consideration. Suzette was born in 1936; then, as she likes to say, lots of things happened. Eventually she turned into a college professor (linguistics), a writer (science fiction, mainstream nonfiction, and textbooks), a science fiction artist/poet/musician, and a grandmother of ten. She writes and publishes The Linguistics & Science Fiction Newsletter, which covers the linguistics/sf interface. Her most recent books are The Language Imperative, The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense at Work, Native Tongue, The Ozark Trilogy, and the paperback edition of The Grandmother Principles. Wildside Press will soon re-issue the Coyote Jones series, and Lethe Press will soon publish Peacetalk 101.
