Through the Grapevine...
New BU member Marlene Satter (under her pseudonym, Lee Barwoord) had a great gift in April—signing contracts for publication of her ecological fantasy novel on her own birthday! The novel, A Dream of Drowned Hollow, is a former winner of Andre Norton's Gryphon Award. The novel will be published as an e-book with Double Dragon in February. Marlene must be on a roll, as she also has two other recent sales... her short story The Minstrel will be appearing in an upcoming Illuminated Manuscripts anthology from Double Dragon; and her story Cold Comfort will be appearing in an upcoming issue of Futures Mystery Anthology Magazine!

Marlene also took part in a group author reading (alas, not a BU event) in May, where she autographed copies of Catfantastic V (not a new book, she knows, but she read from her story therein and multiple copies sold—always a good thing) and handed out bookmarks to remind attendees that her book will be Coming Soon.

Another fresh face for BU, Sarah Dickson, had some pretty exciting news herself. Her first novel, Arien, was published in late May by Triskelion. Along with that, she's signed contracts for five (yes... five!) more erotic romance novels.

It must be first novel time or something. BU member Steph Reisner's debut fantasy novel, Left Horse Black, came out on July 21st and Steph was interviewed for sciencefictionfantasyhorror.com by Anne Verville to talk about it.

It's not all about first novels though... Eileen (E.F.) Watkins' fourth novel, Paragon, was out in August from Amber Quill. Conspiracies, romance, thrills, supernatural happenings... and that's just for Eileen... no, no, that would be her heroine...

Tate Hallaway—better known to most of us as Lyda Morehouse—has started a blog at tatehallaway.blogspot.com. Revel in the trials and tribulations of a vampire genre/romance author's adventures!

BU'er Barbara Karmazin recently received some fabulous news... her novel, The Huntress, won the Dream Realm Award for Best SF Erotica.

Not to be outdone, Laurie Marks won her second Gaylactic Spectrum Award, this time for Earth Logic. That makes two wins in three years for Laurie!

BU has also been busy. Readings have been held at a number of conventions, including Readercon—where Phoebe Wray, Delia Sherman, Sarah Micklem, Victoria McManus, Ellen Kushner, and Elaine Issak read—the Worldcon in Glasgow (we've gone across the pond!), and more.

Of course, the big event recently was Wiscon, and the BU events there were fabulous as always. We enjoyed a fabulous Rapidfire Reading, with the usual array of old and new hands—and as always it was highly received! There was also a party, with BU members wandering in and out all evening with many exclamations of Oh, so you're... I see your name on the list all the time! Plans are apparently already afoot for an even bigger presence next year!
