Broad Universe News
Pssst?
The righteous woman with "The Burning Bush" (you know who you are) tells me there was a fabulous BU reading up north a few weeks ago at Boskone. A great, attentive audience who seemed to prefer listening to chocolate showed up to hear the words of Patricia Bray, Jennifer Dunne, Elaine Isaak, MJ Danville, Wen Spencer and Phoebe Wray. I can only hope that my source, Ms. Pelland, read as well. Word also comes from a fellow Broadsheet staffer that she's taken on a new writing-related task. Marcia Barrett Nice, copyeditor for the Broadsheet, has been asked to be contest administrator for Writer's Weekend. One of our publisher friends also recently had some good news! Aio Publishing was an award recipient for outstanding book design for a special edition of Ian Macleod's The Summer Isles at the 54th Annual Chicago Book Clinic Book and Media Show. The book looks stunning and sets the bar pretty high for future work from Aio! Things are also afoot for dynamo Lyda Morehouse, whose agent recently sold Japanese language rights for Archangel Protocol. As if that weren't enough, Lyda's good friend Tate Hallaway will be all the rage with a number of book clubs with the debut novel Tall, Dark, and Dead. It will be making the rounds in romance, science fiction, and general book club circles. Sounds like something to sink one's teeth into... And award season seems to be upon us. Anne Harris's "Still Life With Boobs" made the final Nebula ballot. A few other non-gentlemanly types joined her, including Kelly Link, Eileen Gunn, Leslie What, Nancy Kress, Susanna Clarke, Carol Emshwiller, Margo Lanagan, and K. D. Wentworth. The new Andre Norton Award for works for works for young adults features an all female cast of finalists. Congrats to all our fellow Broads! That's all the little birds told me this time... See you all in a few short months in Madison! |
