July 2010 Art by Valentina KalliasDarkside of meby Valentina KalliasValentina Kallias is an artist currently living in Switzerland whose visually-compelling art has appeared on book covers, CD covers and in magazines. A tour of her website: http://www.kallias.com/ reveals a wide range of media and styles, including 3-D sculpture, costume, makeup, illustration, digital photo-manipulation, portrait photography with a twist, and much more. She writes, “I do like to create different types of art because I do not want to have a stagnant style. I am my own model and from time to time my sister poses for me.” Her imagery includes female-centric fantasy, horror, and as she says, “an obsession for military stuff.” As you can see on her website, she's also interested in gas masks, the juxtaposition of feminine beauty with sometimes harsh, or even grotesque, surroundings, and the mysterious paradox of our intimate and intricate involvement with the deep forces of life and death….
