Promoting Broad Universe

A number of Broad Universe promotional materials are available for your use at conventions, readings, or other events. If you are representing Broad Universe or your event is done in conjunction with Broad Universe, please make sure these materials are available at the event and passed out to your audience.

Some items such as the New Releases brochure are bulk ordered once a year. Contact info(at)broaduniverse.org to determine if someone is already bringing brochures or other items to the convention. Or if the item in question can be mailed to you.

Items that are not already printed up can be obtained by downloading the .PDF documents and printing out or copying as many as you need. Use OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, or Staples. Of course if your hometown copy center is reasonable, use them. Compare a couple and use the cheapest.

Any costs you incur will be reimbursed by Broad Universe, but the cost must be approved ahead of time. Please make arrangements through Grace O'Malley at money(at)broaduniverse.org. She will suggest how many copies to make and where to send receipts for reimbursement. She will also need to know which convention you're attending so she'll get you your information on time.

If you have any questions at all about this process, ask Grace. Remember, before you print any BU materials for which you expect to get reimbursed, contact Grace so she knows what's going on. If you prefer to have someone send you copies already printed out, Grace will make arrangements for you. Just let her know which convention you're attending so she'll get them to you on time.

• "New Releases" brochures
• "Award Winning Novels from Broad Universe" list
• "Books that Young Adult Readers will Enjoy" brochure
• Membership form
• Forms for selling printed work at the BU table at upcoming conventions. The convention-specific form will be available from the events page once a convention is scheduled.

What to do with the materials

• Put some of each brochure on the convention freebie table. At a big convention our brochures will get lost so a few is enough. If you could stop back from time to time and replenish the stock, that would help.
• Take some brochures with you to any panels where there are likely to be women writers and hand them out to panel members. Stand at the door at the end of the panel and smile and hand brochures out to all who leave. About a third will take the brochure. Do this at the scheduled BU rapid-fire Readings as well.
• For any panels you are on, if it's appropriate, mention that you have some brochures about Broad Universe. Hold one up for all to see. A few people will ask you for one after the panel. If your book is for sale at the BU dealers' table then make sure to mention that as well.
• Ask booksellers who have a bricks and mortar store if they will take some brochures for display in their store. (Don't expect to see these in the Dealer's Room dealers are not going to want to give up valuable selling space, so they probably won't put them out on their table(s) except on the last day.)
• If there are any room parties, feel free to take a few brochures and leave them on any table you can.
