Broad Universe 2007 Membership Contest
Motivation: Broad Universe is looking to increase its numbers.
We'd like to be able to create regional centers of activities. In
order to do that we need enough members in a specific region to
warrant a chapter. With slightly more than 200 members scattered
around the world, most potential regions cannot support a chapter at
this time. For this reason, we are holding a membership contest,
prodding the current members to participate in the effort to increase
our numbers.
How it works: Starting with the kickoff at Wiscon on May 26,
2007 until the end of the year, December 31, 2007, we're keeping
track of who brings in new members. At the end of the contest period,
whoever brings in at least five new members will get the 2008
membership year for free. If you seek a level 1 membership, you'll
need to bring in at least 3 new level 1 members. In addition, the
three top recruiters will receive signed copies of books by Ursula Le
Guin, Maureen McHugh, and Ellen Kushner.
To keep the accounting straight, make sure you tell your recruits to
report your name as salesperson who got them to sign up. They can use
the text box at the bottom of the membership signup form to do that.
If they are using the paper form, they can just write it on the
bottom. You can check your progress or make sure you are getting
credited for your recruiting efforts by contacting contest .

The official rules for the contest are:
- Must be a member of BU, either Level 1 or Level 2.
- Must bring in five(5) new memberships in order to receive one
year of membership free. If you seek a Level 1 membership, at least
three of the new memberships must be of Level 1. If two or fewer of
the five memberships are Level 1 and you are seeking a free Level 1
membership for yourself, the cost of your membership will be reduced
by the cost of a Level 2 membership. Top recruiter(s) will be awarded
a grand prize of a signed copy of work by a significant author of
speculative fiction. Author(s) to be determined later.
- Free memberships will be awarded for the membership year
following the end date of the contest. Membership years begin on June
1.
- The contest will commence May 27, 2007 and end December 31, 2007.
To be credited with a membership, the newly recruited membership must
be paid in full by December 31, 2007.
- New membership pricing will follow the policies as established by Broad Universe
and available at http://www.broaduniverse.org.
- Only one member can be credited for each recruitment. In other
words if two current members work to recruit a new member, only one
of them can be credited with the recruitment. The credit should be
reported by the recruited member. If reported by the recruiter, the
recruited member must confirm the report.
